Mix turnaround and scheduling

Mixing is not a single switch: checking stems, building balance and space takes time. This guide helps you estimate when your mix lands and how to plan revisions with Nephilimrivo in Amsterdam.

What drives turnaround

A mixing job starts when we receive complete, sensibly named stems — not when you feel the song is “almost done”. Track count, song length, recording cleanliness and whether you book an attended session all shape hours needed. Our flat €195 covers one song up to 48 tracks; heavier work or attended time bills at €95 per hour.

Mixing the same evening as a band session in our live room is possible only if exports are verified. Tired ears at midnight choose differently than a fresh morning — worth baking into your calendar.

Deliver stems without delay

Export with no limiter on the master bus; leave headroom. Supply kick, snare, overheads, bass, guitars, keys, synths, FX returns and vocals as separate files with clear names. Skip muted duplicates “just in case”. Keep sample rate and bit depth consistent; 24-bit WAV at 48 kHz is our default unless your project is locked otherwise.

If you tracked vocal recording or band recording here, ask within 24 months whether session files remain. External uploads use an agreed link; when unsure, email [email protected] one sample export. Messy folders burn the first hours on housekeeping — that shows up in timeline or hourly cost.

Attended versus unattended

Unattended: you send stems, we mix on our schedule and return a first version. Attended bills hourly: you sit in the control room, hear moves live and decide on the spot. Attended suits detailed references or fast iteration; unattended fits solid tracks and clear written notes.

Either way, send two references for space and punch, not an mp3 you want cloned. Flag issues (“muddy bass in breakdown”, “dry lead”) instead of vague “make it hit harder” with no context.

First version and revision rounds

After intake we confirm indicative delivery — often a few business days for one unattended song, longer for EPs or holiday peaks. The first mix is a full balance, not a stub. You receive 2 revision rounds: bundled feedback per round, not dripped across weeks. That keeps the job moving for you and for our engineers.

Revisions cover balance, EQ, dynamics, effects and level — not fresh recording passes without new studio time. Need more vocals? Rebook vocal recording. Extra rounds beyond the included 2 may bill hourly; we flag that upfront when scope looks tight.

Mastering and release in parallel

Mix and mastering are separate. Mastering needs a mix with headroom and no smashed bus limiter. Schedule mastering once you sign off mix v2 or your final revision. Our master delivery formats guide lists files for streaming, vinyl or broadcast.

Many Netherlands-based artists release via aggregators with loudness and format rules. We deliver masters aligned to those targets when agreed at mastering — not automatically with every mix.

Budget and VAT

Indicative cost for one song: €195 incl. 21% VAT, up to 48 tracks. Attended work: €95 per hour. Several songs? Ask for a bundle via contact — we will say honestly whether per-track or hourly is cheaper.

How to book

Send track list, stem count, deadline and references via contact or 020 244 8916. Replies within 2 business days are normal; rush only when the diary allows. 40% deposit on confirmation; cancel until 7 days ahead per terms and conditions.

Prep vocals before mixing? Use the vocal session checklist. Spoken-word projects fall outside per-song mix pricing — see podcast recording or FAQ. The studio is on Overtoom in Oud-West. Tram 1 stops at Overtoom (Overtoom / Vondelpark); from there it is about a six-minute walk. You can park bicycles at the entrance; cars use paid street parking or Q-Park Byzantium on Vondelstraat, roughly a ten-minute walk.
